Meet Your Surgeon

A revision begins with understanding the first surgery

Dr. Kusuma is board-certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery and the American Board of Otolaryngology, and previously served as a Staff Surgeon at the Cleveland Clinic Foundation. His practice focuses on facial plastic surgery, including facelift, deep plane facelift and neck lift surgery.

Every revision is planned around what the first surgery did and what needs to change. Depending on your anatomy, the plan may include repositioning the deeper facial tissues with a deep plane approach, a neck lift, revising scars, correcting earlobe shape or restoring volume. Dr. Kusuma’s goal is a natural, refreshed result that does not look “done.”

Why Patients Consider a Revision

When a first facelift needs refining

Some concerns appear soon after surgery. Others develop as the face continues to age naturally. Each can be evaluated in a private consultation.

01

Jowls, sagging or neck looseness that returned sooner than expected

02

A tight, “pulled” or windswept look

03

Scars that are visible, widened or poorly placed

04

Earlobes that are pulled down or distorted

05

A hairline or sideburn that shifted after surgery

06

Results that have softened with natural aging over the years

Your Revision Journey

Thoughtful, personal and unhurried

Step One

Your consultation

Dr. Kusuma will review your goals, your medical history and, if available, the operative report from your previous facelift. He will examine your skin quality, scars, earlobes, hairline and the position of the deeper facial tissues, then explain which concerns can be improved and how. Bringing photos from before your first facelift can help.

Step Two

Your surgical plan

Every revision is planned around what the first surgery did and what needs to change. Your plan is built for your anatomy, with the goal of a natural, refreshed result.

Step Three

Your recovery

Recovery after a facelift revision is usually similar to recovery after a first facelift, with swelling and bruising that improve over the following weeks. Because every revision is different, Dr. Kusuma will give you a personal recovery plan and follow you closely after surgery.

Questions & Answers

Facelift revision FAQs

Answers to the questions patients ask most often before a secondary facelift.

Ask Dr. Kusuma
What is a facelift revision?

A facelift revision is a surgery that corrects or refines the results of a previous facelift. It can address problems such as early return of sagging, a pulled look, visible scars or earlobe distortion.

How long should I wait after my first facelift before a revision?

Your tissues need to heal fully before a revision is planned, which often takes about a year after the original surgery. Dr. Kusuma will advise you on timing after examining you.

Can a revision fix a “pulled” or windswept look?

Often, yes. A pulled look usually comes from tension placed on the skin rather than the deeper tissues. A revision can reposition the deeper layers so the skin lies more naturally, although how much can be improved depends on your anatomy and earlier surgery.

Can scars from my first facelift be improved?

In many cases, scars that are widened or poorly placed can be revised during the procedure. Dr. Kusuma will examine your scars at your consultation and explain what is realistic.

Do I need my previous surgeon’s records?

They are helpful but not required. If you can, request the operative report from your first facelift and bring it to your consultation.
